I Believe I Can Fly...
I going to share a little known secret about myself that nobody has ever heard until this very moment. You probably won't believe this, but I can fly. Not only can I fly, but I have done it many times and in many places. Sometimes, it has gotten me out of a bad situation. Other times, it has just been an interesting experience.
I don't really remember when I discovered that I could fly. I do know that I was doing it fairly regularly by the time I was eight years old. One flight I remember in particular from that time was on a day that I went exploring around the Lackland AFB saddle club, where my father kept his horse, Booger Red. That probably seems like a strange name for a horse. It is actually stranger when you hear that it was my father's nickname as a child. In fact, many years ago, my mother sometimes called him Booger. I guess it didn't suit him as he got older, because I don't remember hearing it in my adult years. Anyway, the day of that flight, it was raining off and on. When I tried to get back to the saddle club, the formerly dry creek bed suddenly had about two feet of flowing water in it. I didn't want to get in the water, so I simply flew across the creek and got back to my adventure.
Flying for me isn't anything like a bird. It isn't anything like an airplane, either. I simply stand in one place and flap my arms up and down as fast as I can. Sometimes, nothing happens. It can be very frustrating. But, most of the time, my body will lift straight up about one foot off the ground. I don't know what makes me fly forward. That just kind of happens.
A couple of times, others saw me fly. It frightened me somehow. I knew that revealing my secret to the world would not be a good thing. I always managed to land suddenly. If anyone asked, I just claimed that I had been jumping up and down. After all, who would seriously believe they had actually seen me flying? Sometimes, I just flew out of view quickly. Then I would hide until everyone was gone.
I don't fly as often in my senior years, but it still happens occasionally when I find myself in the perfect place and time to take a quick flight unseen. I'm not as afraid of being found out as I used to be. That's why I'm sharing my secret with you. I won't ask you not to tell anyone, but I also won't fly for you, so don't bother asking me to.
Well, my fitbit just buzzed to tell me it is midnight. I need to take the dogs out for their last potty break of the day. Then, I'll head upstairs, brush my teeth, and climb into bed. And, maybe, if I'm lucky, I might just find myself in the perfect place and time to take another wonderful flight in dreamland.
Goodnight, friends!
