Just Another Day
I texted N2S today to ask him what brand of deodorent he wanted me to pick up for him while I was at the grocery store to buy popcorn after work today. He texted back asking me to get him some cough medicine as well because he had a dry cough and a sore throat. I told him he should go to the drugstore and get the cough medicine himself, since he wouldn't even see me until Friday at the earliest. Of course, he was confused about what kind of cough medicine to get. I told him to talk to the pharmacist and let him suggest one that would best match his symptoms. Eventually, the whole thing evolved into an actual phone call, and it was decided that he would go to the Minute Clinic at the CVS drugstore near my work.
A few hours later, N2S texted me again and asked if I knew anything about Economics. I told him I wasn't sure, but I could help him after work, if he came by the house, and offered to go with him to the drugstore. He agreed to that plan and came by the school to meet me at about 3:20, which he did. We ran over to CVS. We were really lucky to get there when we did. Nobody was ahead of us, so as soon as we had finished filling out everything on the computer, the PA called us in. She checked him out, gave him some prescriptions, and sent us over to the pharmacy. We walked around the store for a few minutes gathering the over the counter meds, some chapstick, and his deodorant. I also wanted popcorn, but they wanted $4.79 for 1.6 pounds. I've bought enough at Walgreen's to know that it is $6.00 for a bit more than 5 pounds. We decided that I would drop N2S off at his truck, run to Walgreens, then meet him back at the house.Unfortunately, I went into autopilot and passed up the turn in to Carson. We went ahead to Walgreens, then, after buying my popcorn, I took him to his truck. At the house, I let the dogs out and went upstairs to use the bathroom, change my clothes, and get my laptop while N2S got his stuff ready and started up his laptop. As soon as I came down, we got started on his Economics work. Actually, we tried to get started on it. I didn't understand it at all. Even when I took the time to read the chapter, I was still clueless. The words didn't make any sense to me. It could have been written in an unknown language. I felt kind of stupid. I was worried that N2S didn't seem to get it any more than I did, altough he had been in class for a half a semester hearing the vocabulary and seeing the professor explain things up on the whiteboard twice a week. I told him there wasn't much help I could give, so he decided that he would go tomorrow to a session with a graduate assistant and get real help. In the meantime, he skipped over to chapter 8 and got it all done while I cooked some hamburgers on the George Foreman. All in all, it turned out to be a good evening. It was great to have N2S come to me for help. It was great to have him need me to go with him to the drugstore. It was great to eat dinner with him. And, mean as it may seem, it was great to see him get in his truck and drive off to UTSA, because it was great to see him be the young man he is becoming.
