Walk in the Park???

How can two people be so different? My wife and I went to the Leon Valley Greenway today. I would say we went on a walk together, but that would be a lie. She was there to "work out". She barreled ahead seeing nothing but an occasional glimpse of her fitbit. She didn't stop to find the hidden location of each bird she heard singing in a tree. She didn't stop to count the family of deer resting in a shady grove by the trail. She didn't stop to marvel at the beautiful buck that was nearly close enough to touch. She didn't scan the turkscap patches for any sign of buds or early red blooms. She didn't stop to read the memorial wreath paying tribute to a trail steward and wonder what happened to him so much that she needed to take a picture to remind her to research it later. She didn't stop to study the soapberry tree and marvel at the way the sun nearly shone through them and seemed to light them like golden Christmas tree bulbs. She didn't strain against the sun trying to see if the vultures over yonder had jazz hands or red heads. And, she certainly didn't stand there watching the cute little Phoebe that kept diving down to the ground and returning to the same spot. Nope. She just kept on marching down the path getting farther and farther ahead of me, until it seemed she wasn't even there.
